Keep Me Closer

‘Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer…’
Who is friend and who is enemy that resides within? This diptych hangs above eye-height as a reminder of the emaciated, rusting, uncomfortable parts of ourselves that we like to hide. 
If installed on either side of a door or facing each other in a corridor, the figures become sentinels through which all must pass- calling for introspection. If used as coat-hangers, they become a reminder of what lies hidden from the world beneath our fabricated props as we exit and enter our sanctuary.
Yet, the parts we deem most ‘ugly’ can often be our greatest teachers and biggest place of growth. Perhaps the enemy within is a friend in disguise and the invocation to ‘Keep me Closer’ is not a threat but an invitation to lean into the things that repels us most about ourselves.
