My childhood growing up on a farm in South Africa instilled in me the enjoyment of making things, being practical, and “getting my hands dirty”. Having attended a range of artistic and sculpture-specific courses, conceptual master classes, and mentorships both locally and abroad, I further developed both the technical skills and understanding of sculpture by working closely with and assisting several leading South African artists.
My commissioned work includes portraits and figurative sculptures, as well as public monuments ranging from small maquettes to life-size pieces and large-scale works up to nine metres tall. My experience includes creating detailed sculptures in bronze, ceramic, pewter, plaster, and cement, along with a jewellery range made from bronze, brass, and silver.
Recently, I have been focused on exploring a theme that has fascinated me for a long time - the unique relationship that can exist between dogs and their humans. In these sculptures, I aim to capture not only the individual nature of each but, more importantly, the connection between two beings.
Overall, my work centers on closely observed, lifelike studies that reflect the empathy I feel for my subjects -whether figures, portraits, or animals - highlighting quiet dignity through subtle expressions and gestures.
