Our Values

Our Story

Qu was born from over three decades of making things well.

Our parent company, Plaster Art SA, has been crafting bespoke ornamental plasterwork in Cape Town since 1991, working on some of South Africa's most significant architectural and interior projects. Over those years, the Quayle and Courts families built something harder to manufacture than plaster: a deep instinct for materials, proportion, and the kind of detail that makes a space feel considered rather than decorated.

Qu grew out of that same instinct, applied to the objects that fill a home. Founded by The Courts Family, the brand brings together a small group of designers, artists, and makers who share one conviction: that the things we live with daily should be worth living with.

Our collection is shaped by the artists we work with. Cristina Salvoldi and Tania Lee each bring a distinct hand to the work: Cristina's practice is rooted in form and sculptural weight; Tania's in surface, texture, and the quieter gestures of a space. Every piece in the collection is made to order, by hand, in Cape Town.

We don't make things quickly. We don't make things cheaply. We make things that last.

What we believe

Originality is non-negotiable
We do not copy. Every piece must contribute something new to the world.

Materials are chosen with intent
We use only the most appropriate, high-quality materials for each purpose.

Longevity over everything
We design and produce items made to last, physically and aesthetically.

Responsible by design
We prioritise materials and processes with the lowest possible environmental impact.

Local first
We source locally wherever possible.

Champion craftsmanship
We actively support, promote, and collaborate with local makers and industries.

Pride in every detail
If we are not proud of it, we do not make it.

Less, but better
We favour restraint, clarity, and considered design over excess.
